How long do I need to leave my wood before applying Osmo UV protection oil?

Recommended:
Oak
Beech
Ash
Alder
Birch
Douglas Fir, an application of WR Base Coat 4001 is recommended before use.
Pine, an application of WR Base Coat 4001 is recommended before use.
Spruce, an application of WR Base Coat 4001 is recommended before use.


A Weathering period is recommended before application:
Cedar new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Iroko new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Mahogany new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Teak new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Walnut new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Ipe new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Merbau new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Wenge new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Rosewood new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Sycamore new or sanded, requires at least approx. 12 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Sapele new or sanded, requires at least approx. 3-4 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
Larch new or sanded, requires at least approx. 2 weeks exposure to the exterior elements before application.
After the weathering period, it is generally recommended to clean the surface before application, always trial apply.

Not Recommended for use with UV Protection Oil:
Green Oak moisture content is often above the maximum 20% recommended.
Idigbo contains yellow dyes which leaches when the wood becomes wet and stains when in contact within iron.
Other woods treated with a varnish, lacquer or other surface coatings must be completely sanded before use.

For all other wood species, always trial apply. If unsure always do a test area before application.
