FAQ

The Osmo Polyx Oil 3088 Anti Slip (R9) and 3089 Anti-Slip Extra (R11) versions have all the same advantages as standard Osmo Polyx Oil so are resistant to water and dirt and very durable. These versions however are also slip resistant to the German R9 and R11 slip resistant classifications respectively. This means that Osmo anti-slip Polyx hardwax-oil retains the natural character of the wood, is microporous and does not crack, flake, peel or blister whilst also giving an anti-slip finish.

Recommended use:

Ideal for all wooden floors, solid or plank wood, strip parquet, OSB or cork flooring and wooden staircases. Also for slate and screed as well as terracotta and other natural (non-glazed) ceramic tiles. As with all applications we recommend a test application is done first on an inconspicuous area.

Tin sizes:

125ml, 750ml, 2.5 litres

Finishes:

  • 3088 Clear - Semi-Matt. Has a R9 rating and is generally suitable for domestic & commercial applications not requiring a specific safety floor.
  • 3089 Clear - Has a satin finish but also includes a fine granular content. It has a R11 rating so is ideal for sloped surfaces or ramps.

Coverage:

Approx 24m² per litre per coat, raw wood will require 2 coats. The coverage can vary significantly depending on the condition and finish of the wood.

Preparation:

Wood surface must be clean and dry (moisture content max. 20%). Polyx ®-Oil is ready to use, please do not thin, stir well before use.
Clean or slightly sand old microporous finishes, remove old varnish (Osmo Paint Remover or by sanding). Small cracks, larger dents and small holes in the wood can be filled Osmo Woodfiller.
Sand carefully before application starting with a coarse paper – final sanding for flooring P100-150, furniture P180-240. Remove dust etc. thoroughly from the surface before application (vacuum cleaner).

Application:

Apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain with either a natural fibre or synthetic brush designed for oils, the Osmo Floor brush or a clean lint free cloth (a microfibre roller is not recommended) and spread well. Allow for good ventilation whilst drying. Apply a second coat as before. For the renovation of oiled/waxed surfaces, generally only 1 coat is required. This should be applied to a clean and dry surface. The final surface quality is dependent on the woods surface structure, we therefore always recommend to test the product on a small sample area before complete application.

Cleaning of tools:

Clean working utensils with Osmo Brush Cleaner, which is a de-aromatised white spirit

Drying time:

Approx. 8-10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23°C/50%, rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or high humidity can increase the drying time.

Please Note:

As with all the Osmo Polyx oils, oils and waxes will enhance the natural appearance of wood helping to bring out the natural colour and grain ( an appearance similar to when the wood is wet). Therefore we strongly recommend that a small test patch is done before the main application to ensure that you are happy with the final appearance.
