Organowood are a Swedish company founded in 2010 that specialise in offering environmentally friendly wood products. The products they offer are based around used silicon based compounds that are bound to wood fibres using organic catalysts. Using this technology allows Organowood to offer a product that not only gives effective fire protection but also has good resistance to rot and fungus. The products are developed in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Science, Stockholm University and Mid-Sweden University in Sundsvall. The treated wood is 10% fossil and 90% wood, the resultant encapsulated wood has a physical barrier preventing any rot or fungus from attacking the wood, whilst the material is also non combustible giving the timber flame retardant properties.
