FAQ
Osmo Paint Stripper for wood and metal is a powerful, low odour universal paint stripper for solvent resistant substrates. The gel remains active for enough time to dissolve several layers of lacquer or varnish in a single application. The Osmo paint stripper gel is free of aromatic compounds and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Recommended Uses:
Designed to dissolve and remove single component lacquers, varnishes, latex paints, oil finishes, wood stains, dispersion glues, polymer plasters etc. on solvent resistant substrates such as wood, metal and mineral substrates such as render, concrete or stone. Always do a test patch on an inconspicuous area before making an application. Osmo Paint stripper Gel has a mild odour and is suitable for any sized area in both indoor and exterior areas.
Preparation:
As stated previously always carry out a test on a small inconspicuous area first to check required application time, substrate compatibility and the desired result. Any surfaces not to be treated or items at risk of splashes etc should be carefully covered and taped up. Always wear appropiate protective clothing, gloves and safety clothing when using this product.
Method of Application:
Stir well before use and do not thin. Apply generously and evenly with a brush or trowel and then cover immediately with cling film or plastic sheeting to stop from drying out. Leave for sufficient time for the required reaction, this could be for a few minutes, several hours or even overnight depending on the application. To ascertain if the stripping has been completed check occasionaly with a trowel, scraper or suitable tool, the reaction time will depend on the coating type, thickness, ambient temperature and humidity. Once the layers have been dissolved, remove the dissolved/softened layer with a trowel and rinse with warm water. Osmo do not recommend leaving the paint stripper on the substrate for any longer than necessary. In some cases it might be necessary to repeat the procedure until the unwanted layers are all removed.
Drying Time:
Allow wood to dry thoroughly (approximately 24 - 48 hours) before applying any surface coating. Please note that lower temperatures, poor ventilation or high humidity may increase drying times.
Coverage:
1 Litre of Osmo Paint Stripper is typically sufficient for 2 - 4 m². However this can vary sigificantly depending on the type and thickness of coating being removed.
Please Note:

Please Note:
- Always allow sufficient time for the wood to dry before applying a new coating.
- Some stains may be impossible to remove, particularly on absorbant timbers where the colour has penetrated deeply. Sanding may be required in some circumstances.
- An abrasive pad may help when rinsing off the coating with warm water.
- Always carry out a test first.
- For restoring greyed wooden surfaces we recommend using Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel 6609.
