Please be aware the type and condition of the timber can have a significant affect on the final appearance.

Coverage for Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain:

1 litre of Natural Oil Woodstain will cover approx 26m2 on smooth timber and approx 12m2 on rough sawn wood. The coverage on absorbant timbers can be significantly improved by coating with 4001 WR Base Coat first. Please note grooved decking requires approximately 30% more than smooth decking due to the increased surface area.

Suitable Applications:

Osmo Natural Oil woodstain is suitable  for most exterior woods (dimensionally stable and non dimensionally stable): doors, windows and windowsill, carports, timber cladding, balcony, wooden decking, screens & fences, pergolas, garden houses and furniture. Please note that when applied to decking or any area subject to foot traffic only a single coat should be applied and then the product must be overcoated with anti slip decking oil (Osmo 430).

Product Application:

The wood must be clean, dry, frost free and have a maximum moisture content of 20%. When possible apply Natural Oil Woodstain to all sides of the timber before installation. Any previous application must be thoroughly cleaned before application, any non porous coatings such as paints and varnishes must be completely removed back to bare timber and any dust removed before any application.

Any organic growth of moss, lichen, mould etc must be removed with Osmo Gard Clean or Flag Asipo Algicidal wash before application, holes or gaps should be filled with a suitable Exterior Gap Sealer, grey or silvered timber can be removed with Osmo Wood Reviver Gel, end grain can be sealed with Osmo End Grain Sealing Wax and if any additional protection is required against insects, rot or blue stain the timber can be pre-treated with Osmo 4001 WR Base Coat.

Osmo Natural Oil woodstain should be applied with an Osmo Flat Brush, microfibre roller or any appropiate brush. It should be applied thinly along the grain and spread well. In normal climatic conditions allow to dry for approximately 4 - 6 hours with good ventilation before applying a second coat. For renovation a single maintenance coat is usually sufficient.

Please Note:

The colour tone created when you apply Osmo Natural Oil woodstain is influenced greatly by the natural tone of the wood and may deviate from the colour chart so a test area must always be done before the main application. Clear finishes offer no UV protection and are therefore not recommended for surfaces exposed to strong sunlight. Dried surface is satin-glossy at first and is afterwards satin. To extend the life of the finish, it is recommended to apply one final top coat of Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra 420 Clear or Osmo 410 after thoroughly drying. (Not recommended for White 900). Many wood species contain water-soluble coloured extractives which may leach out naturally when weathered. All colour tones can be mixed with each other.

Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain (with a minimum order size of 2.5 litres per colour)can be ordered in 186 RAL Classic and 1950 NCS colour tones but there will be a delay. Stains allow the subsurface to shine through. Depending on the wood species, the appearance of the colour tone may deviate from the original RAL/NCS colour tone.

Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain contains biocides and is therefore only to be used on exterior areas. The added active ingredients delay or minimize the risk of algae and fungal attack.

*Please note that the colour shades displayed are a true likeness of the original however different output methods (screens & printers) will cause variation in colour. In addition the colour will vary with the wood depending on age, pre-treatment etc and therefore it is always advisable to test on a small inconspicuous area first.

Tips When Using Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain:

  • Always allow resinous new wood at least 12 weeks to weather before applying.
  • Always do a test first, oils will exagerate and bring out the wood's natural colours.
  • Never apply too thickly, it will be no more effective, will take longer to dry and will give an uneven appearance
  • If you want the wood to grey naturally and evenly use 701 Clear Matt.
  • Multi purpose and standard domestic cleaners will damage the coating
